The French tenor Xavier Mas studied at the Poitiers Conservatoire and subsequently with Anne-Marie Rodde, Rachel Yakar, and Christiane Eda-Pierre. In 2001 he was accepted at the Marseille Academy (CNIPAL), where he gained practical experience under the tutelage of Yvonne Minton and made his first stage appearances as Arbace (Idomeneo) and in Die Zauberflöte. In 2002 he appeared in Charpentier’s Louise at the Opéra de Marseille, in 2003 as Gomatz in Mozart’s Zaide at the Vienna Kammeroper. From 2003 to 2005 Xavier Mas was a member of the Studio of the Opéra National de Paris and there sang rôles in Verdi’s Trovatore, Ariadne auf Naxos and Idomeneo. Additional engagements took him to the Hamburg Staatsoper, to the Opéra de Toulon, to Tours, and to the Salzburg Festival, where in 2005 he made his début as a Priest in Die Zauberflöte under Riccardo Muti. The following year he appeared there again in a concert performance of Mozart’s Thamos under Bertrand de Billy. Recent rôles include Pylade in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Aulide in Nancy and Don Ottavio in Avignon.
