Born in 1985, Adam Plachetka was educated at the conservatory of his native Prague. In addition to his many national competition victories he won First Prize at the International Antonín Dvořák Competition in Karlovy Vary, where he was also awarded special prizes for interpretation.

As a twenty-year-old he had already made his début in Tom Johnson’s Four Note Opera at the Prague National Theatre, appearing also as Micha (The Bartered Bride), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Publio (La clemenza di Tito), Jake Wallace (La fanciulla del West), and subsequently as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro. With the Prague State Opera he has been heard as Papageno and as Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia). In 2005 and 2006 he was a guest at the Znojmo Music Festival, appearing as Polyphemus in Handel’s Acis and Galatea and as Mozart’s Don Giovanni. In May 2007, in Seoul, he was Argante in the Korean Opera Group’s production of Handel’s Rinaldo.

As a concert singer Adam Plachetka has been heard with outstanding Czech orchestras, including the Prague Symphony FOK, and various early music ensembles, such as Collegium Marianum, Ensemble Baroque, and Solamente Naturali. Among the conductors with whom Adam Plachetka has collaborated are Alessandro De Marchi, Enrico Dovico, John Fiore, Asher Fisch, and Caspar Richter.
