Closely engaged as a performer of new works for the piano, many of which have been written for her by composers such as Berio, Xenakis and Santoro, Jocy de Oliveira has been a soloist under Stravinsky, recorded all the major piano works by Messiaen and presented world premières among others by John Cage and Lukas Foss. She has been applauded as soloist with major American and European orchestras and as a composer has been involved in a variety of media since the early 1960s. The most prominent woman composer in Brazil, she has composed six major operas and music-theatre pieces, acclaimed through several productions in different countries. In 2007 the International Festival of Campos do Jordão, São Paulo centred on her works as the sole contemporary composer in residence, presenting her operas and works for chamber and symphonic concerts. In 2008 the Technologic Museum Oi Futuro, Rio de Janeiro, presented a major retrospective of her works in the format of installations, video shows, concerts and operas, presented over two months for about 25,000 people. She has received a number of distinguished grants and awards, such as the Guggenheim Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation and has been elected a life member of the Academia Brasileira de Musica. In 2010 she presents the world première of her new music, a theatre  piece, Revisiting Stravinsky, with special participation of the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira conducted by Robert Craft at the Theatro Municipal, Rio de Janeiro.
