Albert Bonnema is from The Netherlands and completed his vocal training at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. From 1991 to 1995 he was a member of the Bern Stadttheater and in the latter year sang the rôle of Stolzing in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Holland Festival. In 1997 he made his début as Lohengrin in Linz. Guest performances as Stolzing, Lohengrin and Siegfried in Götterdämmerung followed in Dresden, Essen, at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, in Zurich, Amsterdam, Sydney and Tokyo. In Hamburg he sang Števa Buryja in Jenůfa, Boris in Kátya Kabanová, Dimitry in Boris Godunov, and Jim Mahoney in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny. In Cologne he was King Candaules in Zemlinsky’s opera of that name and appeared at the Salzburg Festival as Midas in Richard Strauss’s Die Liebe der Danae, and in Düsseldorf as Enée in Les Troyens. His rôles in Stuttgart have included that of Jeník in The Bartered Bride, in addition to his appearance as Siegfried in Götterdämmerung.
