Andrei Popov studied singing at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in his home city of St Petersburg. In 2007, he became an ensemble member of the Mariinsky Theatre where he has performed Truffaldino (The Love of Three Oranges), Mime (Das Rheingold and Siegfried), Shepherd (Oedipus Rex), and the title role in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Kashchey the Immortal, among others.
Guest commitments have taken him to the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, The Metropolitan Opera in New York, the State Operas in Munich and Vienna, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London, the Teatro Real de Madrid, the Opera de Paris and to the festivals in Adelaide, Edinburgh, Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg.
For his appearance in Gogoliade, he was awarded the Golden Mask in 2010.
