Bass Jan Martiník studied voice with Eliška Pappová at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava. He has won a number of awards at national and international competitions, including the song prize at the 2009 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition. Between 2008 and 2011 he was a member of the ensemble of the Komische Oper in Berlin and from 2012 until 2023 a permanent member of the ensemble of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Guest engagements have taken him to the Volksoper Wien as well as to the theatres in Erfurt, Prague, Košice and Ostrava. Jan Martiník works with renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Fabio Luisi and Zubin Mehta. He has appeared as a concert soloist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Dresden, and has sung at the BBC Proms. He also enjoyed international success with Dvořák’s Biblical Songs, which he recorded in 2017 with the Czech Philharmonic under Jiří Bělohlávek.
