The virtuoso harpist Albert Zabel was born in Berlin and at the tender age of 20 became solo harpist for the Imperial Ballet in St Petersburg. He wrote numerous works for the harp, one of which was a concerto. As a teacher, he was one of the pioneers of the Russian school, which is still famous to this day. He died in 1910 in his adopted city.
