Mexican Arturo Márquez is the son of a mariachi (a wandering folk musician typical of Mexico). He has an academic conservatory background in piano and composition, and his works are inspired by the musical folklore of his native country. Currently, he lives and works in the US. Among his most renowned orchestral works are the Danzones, inspired by the popular traditions of the Veracruz Mexican region.
