Conductor Mark Russell Smith leads the University of Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, comprised of the top instrumentalists from the University of Minnesota. Each season’s diverse repertoire is designed to inspire, challenge, and equip emerging musicians for the rigours and stylistic flexibility needed for success in today’s orchestral world. Past repertoire highlights include Mahler’s Symphonies Nos. 1, 3, 4, and 9; Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 3, 7, and 9; the Stravinsky Centennial Series including Petrushka and Firebird, as well as operatic performances.
