American soprano Elizabeth Futral was born in New Orleans and studied at Stamford and Indiana universities before moving to the Chicago Lyric Opera Center for American Artists and winning the 1991 Metropolitan Opera Auditions.
For New York City Opera she has sung Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte and Bella in Michael Tippett’s The Midsummer Marriage, and she has appeared in the title roles of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Delibes’ Lakmé. Other successes include the role of Zerbinetta in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos in Florida and appearances in major roles across Europe and America.
