José Vicente Castelló was born in Alicante and is today one of the leading horn-players in Spain. He studied with Radovan Vlatkovic at the Reina Sofia Music School in Madrid, where he was presented several times with the outstanding performance prize by Queen Sofi a. José Vicente Castelló has won a number of international prizesat the 2005 Munich ARD International Competition and and an honorable mention at the 2007 Prague Spring International Competition. He has collaborated with distinguished ensembles, including the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Concergebouw Orchestra, the Berlin Staatskapelle, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Zürich Tonhalle Orchestra. He has also appeared with distinguished conductors, including Mariss Jansons, Pierre Boulez, Daniel Barenboim, Lorin Maazel, Bernard Haitink, Daniele Gatti, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Vladimir Jurowski, Andris Nelsons, Neville Marriner and John Eliot Gardiner. He has participated in important chamber music festivals, including the Marlboro Music Festival, the Festival de Megève, the Santander Festival, the Edinburgh Festival and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival. Since 2010 he has been artistic director of the Festival d’Estiu d’Alella, Barcelona. He teaches at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, and is a member of the Orchestra Mozart in Bologna and principal horn of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
