The career of the German mezzo-soprano Marga Schiml took her first to Basle and then to Munich, followed by a distinguished and busy career in opera houses throughout Germany and then abroad with a wide range of rôles, from Mozart to Wagner, singing Cherubino under Karajan and under Sawallisch and Debussy’s Mélisande under Kubelík. She is well-known as a concert artist in repertoire ranging from the major choral works of Bach to the contemporary. She enjoys a wide reputation as a teacher and since 1990 has been on the teaching staff of the Karlsruhe Conservatory.
