Tenor Mert Sungu studied at the Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul and the Scuola dell’Opera of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

From 2012 to 2014 he was a member of the youth ensemble of Semperoper Dresden, making his debut as Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia and tackling further principal roles during 2014–16. Guest engagements have brought performances at the Teatro di San Carlo, Theatre du Chatelet and as Peter Quint in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw at the State Opera in Istanbul. He has also appeared in Les Pêcheurs de perles in Trieste, Il viaggio a Reims in Rome, Moïse et Pharaon in Aix-en-Provence, Don Pasquale in Santiago de Chile and Les Huguenots in Amsterdam and Geneva.
