Alberto Zedda was born in 1928 in Milan, where he studied music before taking a degree in music history at the University of Urbino. He worked from 1961 to 1963 at the Berlin Deutsche Oper and from 1968 to 1970 at New York City Opera. In 1992/93 he was appointed artistic director at La Scala, Milan. He has collaborated with distinguished Italian and international ensembles and conducted symphony and opera orchestras in New York, London, Milan, Paris, Warsaw, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo and elsewhere. Since 1998 he has conducted almost annually at Rossini in Wildbad. He is editor of the Rossini Collected Edition and artistic director of the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. He has made several important recordings at the Rossini in Wildbad Festival, including L’equivoco stravagante (2000), La Cenerentola (2004), L’inganno felice (2005), La donna del lago (2006) and L’Italiana in Algeri (2008).
