Hubert Claessens studied singing, drama and saxophone at the Conservatory of Maastricht. In 1988 he was awarded third prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. His extensive repertoire ranges from Schütz to Penderecki, and he has recorded Handel’s Lothario with Paul Goodwin. Recent performances include Ariadne auf Naxos with the Flemish Opera, Sarastro in Amsterdam, and a tour of Japan singing Leporello in Don Giovanni under Christian Pollack.
