John Gibbons works with most major British orchestras including the BBC Symphony and BBC Concert, LPO, CBSO, Bournemouth, Ulster, and the RPO with whom he conducted the first Classic FM ‘Hall of Fame’ concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

He has recorded Skalkottas with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Arthur Benjamin’s string concertos with the RSNO, Bruckner 9 with Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, and two discs of William Wordsworth with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra. He recorded Laura Rossi’s film score The Battle of the Ancre and in 2016 conducted the BBC Concert Orchestra in her score to The Battle of the Somme at the centenary live screening in the Royal Festival Hall.

John Gibbons studied music at Queens’ College, Cambridge, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Royal College of Music winning numerous awards as conductor, pianist, and accompanist.

He is also a composer and arranger with a number of pieces broadcast from Clifton Cathedral where he is choral director. He assisted Sir John Eliot Gardiner on both the Beethoven ‘Leonore’ project and the Philips recording of Grainger, Leonard Slatkin for Ives’ Fourth Symphony with the Concertgebouw and various conductors at the Royal Opera House. He has conducted numerous operas for Opera Holland Park, La Bohème for the Spier Festival in South Africa, toured Hansel & Gretel in Wales and Ireland with WNO, Opera Northern Ireland & Opera Theatre Company, and conducted operas for ETO.
