Born in Wels, the tenor Jörg Schneider had his first musical training as a member of the Vienna Boys Choir, followed by private study with Elfriede Obrowsky. In 1995 he joined the Wiesbaden Staatstheater, where his rôles included Ramiro in La Cenerentola, Chateauneuf in Zar und Zimmermann, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, Alberto in La Gazetta, Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Stanislaus in Der Vogelhändler. From 1997 to 2000 he was a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, appearing there as Ramiro, Don Ottavio, Tamino, Almaviva, Ferrando, Tonio in La fille du régiment and Ernesto in Don Pasquale.
He has made guest appearances in these and other rôles throughout Europe, including Belmonte at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Almaviva at the Stuttgart Staatsoper, Tamino at the Opernhaus in Zürich and at the Teatro Bellini in Catania, as well as Corentino in Meyerbeer’s Dinorah at the Teatro Regio in Parma. He has undertaken engagements in Florence, Turin, Naples, Verona and Rome, and in song and concert repertoire in Germany, Italy and at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Since the 2003–06 season he has appeared at the Vienna Volksoper.
