The cellist Othmar Müller was born in 1963 in Vienna, studying there and in the United States. He appears worldwide with the Artis-Quartet Vienna, which he co-founded in 1980, at the most important venues and music festivals, with its own annual series of concerts since 1988 at the Vienna Musikverein. Many of the quartet’s recordings have won awards, including the Grand Prix du Disque, Prix Caecilia, Diapason d’Or, Wiener Flötenuhr, and Echo Klassik.

Othmar Müller teaches chamber music at the University of Music in Graz, and has given master-classes in the United States, Hong Kong, and Austria, and at the renowned Casals Festival at Prades. Solo activities include first perfomances of Gottfried von Einem’s Music for Solo Cello, the Cello Concerto by Herwig Reiter (Berlin Konzerthaus) as well as the presentation of the recently discovered Sonata by Alexander Zemlinsky at the Musikverein in Vienna.

Othmar Müller’s instrument is a cello by Andrea Amati, Cremona 1573 and has been lent by the Collection of Musical Instruments of the Austrian National Bank.
