Joseph Horowitz is the author of 11 books about the American musical experience. He is also a concert producer of long experience, having served as executive director of the Brooklyn Philharmonic at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. He co-founded PostClassical Ensemble in Washington, D.C., in 2003. From 2011 to 2020 he directed Music Unwound, a national consortium of orchestras and universities supported by the National Endowment of the Humanities. All of these activities have pursued the ideal of reinventing the concert orchestra as a ‘humanities-infused’ institution, exploring cross-disciplinary themes and curating the American musical past.
