The bass-baritone Konstantin Wolff studied from 2000 to 2007 at the Karlsruhe Musichocschule with Donald Litaker, winning the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Prize of the Prussian Cultural Institution and holding a German People’s student scholarship. He made his operatic début in Lyon under William Christie as Mercurio in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, taking part in the same year in Christie’s academy for young singers, Le jardin des voix. Subsequent engagements have included appearances in Handel’s Orlando in Zurich and in Messiah with the Berlin Philharmonic. Other rôles have included Achilla in Giulio Cesare, Snug in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Abbot in Curlew River, and Caronte in Monteverdi’s Orfeo. After the 2007 première of Benoît Mernier’s Frühlings Erwachen at La Monnaie in Brussels, he returned there in 2009 to sing Silvano in Cavalli’s La Calisto. With a repertoire ranging from the early baroque to the twentieth-century, he has made frequent concert appearances, collaborating with distinguished orchestras and conductors. He has won a reputation as a Lieder singer in recitals with Trung Sam and has participated in a number of recordings, including Victor Hugo en musique for Harmonia Mundi.
