Václav Luks began his musical education studying the horn and the harpsichord in Plzeň and Prague. He continued his studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where he specialised in early music.
In 2005 he transformed Collegium 1704 from a chamber ensemble into a full Baroque orchestra, simultaneously founding Collegium Vocale 1704. Since Autumn 2012 Václav Luks has appeared regularly at the Rudolfinum in Prague, including directing Collegium 1704’s own series at the hall. He and his ensembles appear regularly around Europe. In addition to performing with Collegium 1704, Václav Luks works regularly with other renowned ensembles such as La Cetra and the Dresden Chamber Choir.
He has made recordings for several labels and has been invited to judge international competitions such as the Johann Heinrich Schmelzer Competition in Melk, the Prague Spring International Music Competition and the Bach Competition in Leipzig. From 2013 to 2015 he taught choral conducting at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music in Dresden.
