Swiss-born bass Ruben Drole graduated from the Zurich University of the Arts, winning several singing competitions along the way. He built his repertoire as a member of the Zurich Opera’s ensemble, which included a remarkable Papageno in Martin Kušej’s Magic Flute under Nikolaus Harnoncourt, subsequently released on DVD. He is as much at home in Handel (i.e. in Giulio Cesare at the Salzburg Festival in the same year he sang in Jeanne d’Arc, Israel in Egypt with Emmanuelle Haïm, and Rinaldo under William Christie) as he is in Verdi, Janáček, Schreker, and Weill.
