The pianist Eugene Mursky was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He studied with Reinhard Becker (Trossingen), Lev Naumov (Moscow), Tamara Popovich (Tashkent) and Einar SteenNökleberg (Hanover). Eugene Mursky’s exceptional talent became evident at an early age. He was already playing Mozart’s piano concerto in A major K488 with orchestra at the age of 11. He performed Chopin’s F minor concerto at 13, Franz Liszt’s B minor sonata and Tchaikovsky’s first piano concerto at 15. These were followed at 17 by Rachmaninov’s D minor concerto. He was awarded scholarships by the DAAD (German academic exchange) in 1994 and the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg in 1995. After winning first prize in the Republic of Uzbekistan’s National Piano Competition, Eugene Mursky received the Grand Prix in the 5th International Piano Competition of the Central Asian CIS Republics in Frunze. In 1994 he won the National Power World Piano Competition in London. He was also awarded the prize for the best Chopin interpretation. Eugene Mursky has performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Yuriy Ahronovich in the Royal Festival Hall in London, with conductors such as Jean Claude Casadesus and Maxim Shostakovich and with orchestras which include the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic and the Irish National Orchestra of Dublin. Concert tours have taken him through the states of the former Soviet Union and to the USA, Korea and Singapore, as well as to many Western European countries and Scandinavia. He was also the soloist in the 50th Chopin Festival in Duszniki in Poland. Eugene Mursky can be heard on his first CD as soloist playing Dmitry Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto no. 1 op. 35, accompanied on the trumpet by Wolfgang Bauer (Hänssler Classic 98.917).
