In pianist Eduard Stan, a Romanian soul is united with musical sensitivity grown on German spiritual ground. Born in 1967 in multicultural Brasov (Romania), he began his musical training at the municipal music school of his home town. In 1978 he emigrated with his family to West Germany. Here he completed his musical studies at the Hanover College of Music and Theater with such renowned personalities as Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Martin Dörrie, and Arie Vardi. Eduard Stan’s special talent has been repeatedly honored at competitions, for example in 1982 at the Steinway & Sons Competition in Hamburg, in 1984/86 at the Jugend musiziert Competition (as soloist and accompanist), in 1985 at the Grotrian-Steinweg Competition in Brunswick, and in 1994 at the International Chopin Competition of the Aschenbrenner Foundation in Cologne.

In 1985 he received the Cultural Achievement Prize of the Lüneburg district, and was a scholarship-holder of the Provincial Collegium of the Principality of Lüneburg. He is indebted to musicians such as Boris Berman, Paul Badura-Skoda, Karl Engel, and Herbert Blomstedt for valuable artistic inspiration. Besides his soloistic activity, he also devotes time to chamber music, composition, and, with avowed preference, to Lied accompaniment. His repertoire encompasses—in addition to numerous works from the most varied stylistic epochs—all of Schubert’s large completed works.

Eduard Stan has appeared in many European countries—besides Germany, in Austria, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Holland, Norway—and, in 1997, for the first time in the U.S.A. Thus, he was recently to be heard in Salt Lake City, under the auspices of the Temple Square Concert Series, and in the Fine Arts Series of Pacific Union College in California. He played at Chateau de Martigny in France, Parador de Siguenza in Spain (recorded by Spanish and Romanian television), at the Leinsweiler Music Festival, for the Chopin Society of Hanover, etc.
