John Calvin (1509-1564), born in Noyon, Picardy, was touched with the teachings of Martin Luther's Reformation and became a pioneer after his conversion to Protestantism. In 1536, he published one of the most important works of the Reformation. Calvin was the seminal figure of the Reformation in Geneva and, throughout his life, hoped for a breakthrough of the Reformation in France.
