GP are you with me? This is the infamous hook shouted by gospel recording artist Kirk Franklin, from his hit tune "Stomp." It's quite amazing how none of the most popular gospel artists could break into the mainstream, but somehow, someway Franklin managed to set the trend. After bringing out one gospel hit, then a Christmas album which did exceptionally well, his new fame allowed him to cross over, giving him recognition as the Garth Brooks of gospel.
He grew up in Texas under the roof of his religious aunt, who is credited with introducing him to the world of gospel music. Despite his church background, Franklin was not always a saint, and in fact he was criticized as being a backslider. He also ran in the streets, but when he saw his close friend lose his life to gunfire, it affected him dramatically and caused him to reevaluate his life. Kirk Franklin's story is a living testimony of how one can go from good to bad then back to being righteous.
