Global Treasures - History's Most Protected Monuments - Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration. Places as unique and diverse as the wilds of East Africa's Serengeti, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Baroque cathedrals of Latin America make up our world's heritage. Join us as we explore one of these protected monuments.

Lying to the south of Cuba, the Caribbean island of Trinidad is an exotic tourist paradise of sun, sea and sand. It also contains some treasures of the past, due to the influence of the Spaniards and the wealth created by the cultivation and export of sugar.

The exclusive palaces and mansions of the sugar barons have made their mark, and exhibits in the Architectural Museum demonstrate their affluent lifestyle. Lush vegetation abounds on the island, but the bell tower of the Iglesia La Santisima is visible from most aspects, and the Plaza Mayor is a lively focal point.
