Professor Helmerson focuses on interpretative and expressive aspects that are the most important in this piece. This Elegy has to be performed like a storytelling. For that purpose, we have different ways to play following the phrase, by using more or less pressure in the bow. According to the style, it is like a meditation, very similar to the Amen in a church. In general, the notes are longer and with more air. In some moments we can avoid the vibrato (e.g. at the end of the first section). In shiftings, the left arm has to be prepared and the change of string should be full of energy to find the right intonation.
