DEBUSSY, C.: Premiere rapsodie (Masterclass with Paul Meyer) (Venys, Gladkov)

Premiere rapsodie
Composer: Debussy, Claude
Meyer, Paul
Gladkov, Vadim
Venys, Irvin

Catalogue Number: RSS8485_1

In this masterclass, Professor Meyer talks about different general aspects, such as tempo, dynamics, color and character. About the tempo, it is necessary to maintain the same pulse during the piece, and not to speed up in the cues. The rhythm is a progressive element in this work and it is always in close relation to the tempo.

Referring to the dynamics, Meyer corrects some 'crescendo' and 'diminuendo' in specific passages; he also thinks it is required more presence of the piano part. In relation to timbre or color, this piece needs a very special atmosphere. Finally, the character of the piece should be lighter, peaceful, sometimes energetic and going to the final with more 'accellerando'.
