In this second part of the masterclass, they carry on with the work on the fourth movement of the String Quartet, Op. 51, No. 2 by Brahms. It must sound noble. They practice some passages playing by voices ?EUR" especially those with harmonic changes - to improve mainly musical aspects related to metrics, rhythm and phrasing. Afterwards Schmidt makes some indications on bow issues: bow direction, bowings, tension to get the appropriate musical accents.
Moreover, they practice the "Poco tranquillo" part by voices (violin II and viola, etc.). As the professor pointed out at the beginning of this masterclass, it is polymetric and the students must practice it by themselves in detail to get the right rhythm.
