A First Prize winner of the International Pablo Casals Competition in Budapest (1968), Maria Tchaikovskaya was a student of Mstislav Rostropovich. She is an active performer and as a teacher, she served as the assistant to the late Rostropovich. Currently, she holds a position of professor at the Moscow State Conservatory.
